Preaching on the lectionary is a good idea.  The historic Western lectionary is a very well balanced diet of the Holy Scriptures. 

Once in a while, however, it is appropriate to depart from the lectionary.  A series of sermons on the Ten Commandments or the Lord's Prayer can be beneficial.

I have begun a series of sermons on the Ten Commandments.  Here is the audio and written version of the sermon on the Third Commandment.
